Risk communication is the process of informing people about potential hazards to their person, property, or community. The purpose of risk communication is to help residents of affected communities understand the processes of risk assessment and management and to participate in making decisions about how risk should be managed. After the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station in 2011, risk communication was required to respond to residents’ concerns about the health effects of radiation. we have engaged in risk communication with a small group in these communities to ensure the residents had a better understanding of the health effects of radiation. We thought that lessons from the nuclear disasters provide key-information on the communication. We hope that we can share the experience of risk communication for the nuclear emergency preparedness and response.
