Validity period
The validity period of a Japan Rail Pass is the consecutive 7, 14, or 21 days depending on the type, period starting from beginning on the date first day when the PASS is first used.
Within three months from the issue date of the Exchange Order was issued, you must turn in your Exchange Order to obtain your Japan Rail Pass (for example, when an Exchange Order issued on April 15, you will have to be turned it in by July 14).
At that time, you will have to specify the date when that you want to start using the PASS. It can be any date within one month from the date when the PASS is received.

Where to get the Japan Rail Pass
With a Japan Rail Pass, you can’t go through these automatic gates at a station. Please proceed to a gate attended by station staff.
Where to get the Japan Rail Pass
You can purchase an Exchange Order only at an authorized sales agent or sales office before coming to Japan.

How to receive your Japan Rail Pass
You have to turn in your Exchange Order (with your passport) to receive your Japan Rail Pass at the exchange office in any major JR stations after you arrive in Japan.

Please note that when you enter Japan, an immigration officer at the airport will stamp “Temporary Visitor,” as shown below, on your passport.
